Bynder DAM migration

Migrate from Bynder
without losing your taxonomy.

Move every Bynder asset to AEM, Cloudinary, AWS S3, Azure Blob, or any of 12 supported destinations. Streaming transfers, Asset Types + metaproperties + taxonomies + workflow state preserved, resume-on-failure, and live observability — built so a brand portal cutover finishes this quarter, not next year.

Why teams leave Bynder

The four reasons we hear from marketing ops.

Bynder pricing scales with seats and storage

Per-seat licensing plus storage tiers plus brand-portal add-ons combine into invoices that surprise teams every renewal. Marketing ops are tired of justifying the spend against simpler alternatives.

Extension and customisation has limits

Custom Asset Types, scripted workflows, and metadata-driven automation hit Bynder's API ceiling fast. Teams with more than ~50k assets and any custom workflow find themselves bolting on external tooling.

Bynder is locked to its own URL scheme

Public links, brand portal URLs, and derivative URLs all resolve under Bynder's domain. Switching providers without breaking thousands of marketing-site image references requires careful URL rewriting and a CDN-layer fallback during cutover.

Workflow modelling is rigid for some teams

Bynder's built-in workflow handles standard creative approval well, but teams with parallel review chains, regional approvers, or asset-by-asset rights workflows often outgrow it. Custom workflow engines and external DAMs cover the gap.

How it works

Four steps from connect to finished cutover.

01

Connect Bynder

Paste your Bynder portal URL + OAuth client ID/secret (or permanent API token). Encrypted at rest, scoped to the connector, never logged.

02

Pick a destination

AEM, Cloudinary, S3, Azure Blob, GCS, Contentful, or any of 12 supported destinations.

03

Start the migration

Assets stream directly from Bynder. Asset Types, metaproperties, taxonomies, collections, workflow state, and derivatives all carry over.

04

Watch it complete

Live progress, per-asset audit log, resume-on-failure, and a downloadable URL-mapping report for rewriting brand-portal references.

Schema-aware translation

Every Bynder property lands on the destination’s native schema.

Asset Types, metaproperties, taxonomies, collections, workflow state, and rights data translate field-by-field into the destination’s native schema — jcr: namespaces in AEM, structured metadata in Cloudinary, user-metadata + tags on S3. No silent drops.

What you actually get

Migration infrastructure, not a Bynder API loop.

Asset Type-aware translation

Bynder Asset Types and their metaproperties map to the destination's native schema. Custom property types — text, dropdown, multi-select, date, link — preserve type information, not just stringified values.

Workflow & approval state carried

Brand portal workflow states, asset approval history, and rights-cleared metadata translate to the destination's native workflow if present, or land as queryable destination metadata. Your existing approval tooling keeps working.

Derivatives & on-the-fly URLs

Bynder-generated derivatives carry over. Bynder transformation URLs export as a CSV mapping for batch rewrite to destination URLs — no more 404s in marketing campaigns post-cutover.

Audit trail for brand governance

Per-asset audit row from Bynder API fetch to destination ACK. Asset Type mapping decisions logged for every transfer. SOC 2 / GDPR / DPDP-friendly evidence trail — useful when brand legal needs a cutover paper trail.

Where Bynder assets can land

Pick any destination. We handle the schema translation.

AEM has jcr:content/metadata and cq:tags, Cloudinary has structured metadata and contextual tags, S3 has user-metadata and object tagging, Contentful has typed entry fields. Univaultport maps every Bynder Asset Type and metaproperty to the closest semantic match, never silently drops content.

Bynder migration FAQ

The questions that come up before every brand portal cutover.

  • For typical Bynder accounts (5-100 TB), expect 24-96 hours of wall time depending on destination throughput and derivative volume. We parallelise per-asset transfers up to Bynder's rate limits, then back off gracefully. The migration is resumable, so wall-clock time is determined by destination ingestion speed, not Bynder API throughput. The dashboard shows a live ETA based on observed rate.
