Migrate from Canto
without losing your tags.
Move every Canto asset to AEM, Cloudinary, Bynder, AWS S3, or any of 12 supported destinations. Streaming transfers, with tags, AI Smart Tags, keywords, albums, custom fields, and copyright all preserved — resume-on-failure, live observability, and a per-asset audit log.

Why teams leave Canto
The four reasons we hear from DAM teams.
Canto pricing climbs as you scale
Storage tiers plus seats plus add-ons add up, and teams that were comfortable at a few TB face uncomfortable renewals as the library and the org grow. Marketing ops increasingly weigh that spend against object storage + a CDN.
You outgrow the metadata + workflow model
Canto covers mid-market tagging and search well, but teams with deep custom-field schemas, complex approval chains, or programmatic metadata automation hit the API ceiling and start bolting on external tooling.
Consolidating into an enterprise stack
After an acquisition or a platform standardisation, assets often need to move into AEM, Bynder, or an object-store + headless setup. The blocker is never the files — it is moving tags, Smart Tags, albums, and rights with them.
Asset URLs are tied to Canto
Public links and CDN URLs resolve under Canto. Switching providers without breaking image references across years of marketing pages needs careful URL rewriting and a CDN-layer fallback during the cutover window.
How it works
Four steps from connect to finished cutover.
01
Connect Canto
Paste your Canto domain + an API token (Client Credentials Mode) or App ID + Secret. Encrypted at rest, scoped to the connector, never logged.
02
Pick a destination
AEM, Cloudinary, Bynder, S3, Azure Blob, GCS, Contentful, or any of 12 supported destinations.
03
Start the migration
Assets stream directly from Canto. Tags, Smart Tags, keywords, albums, custom fields, and copyright all carry over.
04
Watch it complete
Live progress, per-asset audit log, resume-on-failure, and a downloadable URL-mapping report for rewriting Canto references.
Schema-aware translation
Every Canto field lands on the destination’s native schema.
Tags, keywords, AI Smart Tags, albums, copyright, and custom fields translate field-by-field into the destination’s native schema — jcr: namespaces in AEM, structured metadata in Cloudinary, user-metadata + tags on S3. No silent drops.

What you actually get
Migration infrastructure, not a Canto API loop.
Tag + custom-field translation
Canto tags, keywords, and custom fields map to the destination's native metadata schema field-by-field. Where the destination has no equivalent, the value is preserved as a sidecar so round-tripping stays possible.
AI Smart Tags preserved
Canto's AI-generated Smart Tags carry over as standard tags, flagged as AI-derived with their confidence scores kept in a sidecar field — so you can filter by tag quality or re-run auto-tagging at the destination.
Albums, keywords & rights carried
Album membership, keyword hierarchies, and copyright/rights data translate to the destination's collections, tagging, and rights model. Expiry dates stay enforceable post-migration.
Audit trail for governance
Per-asset audit row from Canto API fetch to destination ACK, with field-mapping decisions logged. A SOC 2 / GDPR / DPDP-friendly evidence trail without extra tooling.
Where Canto assets can land
Pick any destination. We handle the schema translation.
AEM has jcr:content/metadata and cq:tags, Cloudinary has structured metadata and contextual tags, Bynder has Asset Type properties, S3 has user-metadata and object tagging. Univaultport maps every Canto tag, keyword, and custom field to the closest semantic match, never silently drops content.
+ 6 more (Contentful, Dropbox, Google Drive, WordPress, FTP, SFTP).

Canto migration FAQ
The questions that come up before every Canto cutover.
- For typical Canto libraries (1-50 TB) expect 12-72 hours of wall time, depending on destination throughput and how many renditions you carry. We parallelise per-asset transfers up to Canto's API rate limits, then back off gracefully. The migration is resumable, so wall-clock time is set by destination ingestion speed, not Canto extraction. The dashboard shows a live ETA from observed throughput.
